Good headset, wanted to love it, but a few drawbacks March 9, 2010 J. E. Methot (San Diego, CA) I got this headset in hopes of resolving some minor problems with my older X3's, which included things like bass sounding too muffled, hard staticy "s" sounds in dialogue, and discomfort after a few hours; just to name a few. I had already decided before looking that I wanted to stick with Turtle Beach, because despite those few issues with my older set, I felt that overall it was a good quality product.
When I tried the x41's for the first time, I noticed an immediate difference. They were significantly more comfortable, and the sound quality was very clear and rich. It was definately an improvement to my previous set. However, at the same time, I also noticed that there was bit more ambient static/hissing during quieter moments or when the volume is turned all the way down, but it wasn't so bad that it was too distracting; until you plug in the mic cable, which then causes it to get a little worse. Also, if you are near a wireless router, it may cause a bit of interferance (popping, cracking, etc).
I've been using this headset for about a month now and in that time I have been back and forth on whether or not I wanted to return them. I weighed the pros and cons and in the end, I decided to keep them. The reason why is because I realized that the static actually gets drowned out amidst the gameplay anyway, and when I plug in the mic cable, it does get a bit worse, but it's easily adaptable after a short period of time. As for the router interferance, all I did was move it to a different room and the problem was completely gone. There's also the issue with the battery life, but that was easily resolved by getting some rechargeable batteries.
So to sum up, this headset isn't perfect, but for what it has to offer, it is a decent headset for late night gaming or when you want a surround sound experience without breaking the bank.
I hope this review was helpful :]
worse customer service, returned the broken product to Amazon March 7, 2010 Sasha (california) within a month of use, the microphone does not work anymore. contact the "turtle beach" which has only email contact, they took forever to return my emails each time. And, each response does not address the problem enough. Reported the problem to Amazon customer service, which is the best, and returned my email with an offer of full refund. But, I still wanted to have this thing fixed as the sound quality was satisfactory to me, but "turtle beach" took more than a month to send my email request of a new microphone with a RMA# asking me to ship the whole thing on my own cost to them for repair. I finally gave up, and might as well return back to Amazon for 85% refund due to it has been past the 30 days at this point. Overall, it has been just the most disappointing item I ever purchased on Amazon and the worst (backward and slow) customer service from any merchants I have ever dealt with.
X41 Headset March 6, 2010 Robert W. Boase Awesome Product, well worth the money. While wearing the headset you are immersed inside the game.
Not a game, it's surround sound wireless head phones. March 4, 2010 Mark T. Bamonte The head phones sound great. It's amazing how good music and video games can sound with quality head phones like these. It soooooo cool being able to tell which direction a sound is coming from in my games. To bad the mic only works with Xbox 360. The head phones work with anything with a HD optical output. So it works with my BDD and PS3, as well as my Xbox 360. But the mic only works with the Xbox 360.
It's just like your cereal! Sometimes, it goes SNAP, CRACKLE, POP!! March 3, 2010 G. Hanohano (Paradise, Hawaii) SUMMARY: When it WORKS, it is the best surround sound wireless headphones on the market today! But inconsistent loud popping and crackling, which is dependent on too many unknown factors, may be a deal breaker for many of you. Do some research, and if you buy this, buy it with a extended warranty, or at least a company with a good return policy. For my detailed review, read below:

Ear Force X4 Dolby Digital Wireless (Headphones)
**Disclaimer: My apologies if this review is a 50-50 compare and contrast between the X41 and the X4. I'll do my best as to explain my reasons for the low X41 score. Also, I'm just a regular guy who loves video games just like you. I'm no BB salesperson or super-sound stereo buff, just a simple person who LOVES the full experience of playing video games. Anyhoo, I hope you find this helpful:
Let's get straight to the PROS (when it is working) of the X41:
+ The Surround Sound processing is by leaps and bounds, INCREDIBLE. Right now Modern Warfare 2 is my addiction, and its like having a 4th "perk", and I call it "super-sonic hearing" perk. The surround is so accurate I can pinpoint EXACTLY where a bad guy is running from, outside of buildings, far down the street, even from behind me! *Hint, combine this with Ninja Pro and you're the stealth master!! This is the X41's BEST quality.
+ No more A/C adapter (compared to the X4). Plugs right in any USB powered source. Nice that it doesn't add to the clutter.
+ This is marginal, but I can say that the headset is slightly lighter than the X4's but overall pretty light for it's size. The ear pads however....(read the CONS)
+ Volume output is really crisp and clear and bass enhancement is GREAT when you turn it on. Again, combined with the Surround Sound positives mentioned above, you will have some incredible gaming experiences than rather using home speakers. (Again, when it works, read on...)
**So when it works, IT WORKS!!! My goodness, it is probably one of the best wireless headphones (even better than the X4) that I've experienced in my gaming lifetime (30+ years!) but for $199 bucks...hmmm...well read on...
SO THEN IT ALL COMES CRASHING DOWN ----> The CONS (I'll start with the simple stuff):
- Gosh the ear pads are itchy!! I hate the texture! Especially coming from my X4's, which had a velvet cloth feel on the pads (oooh yeah, lovely). These feel like you're wearing your backpack/schoolbag strap on your ears. What were they thinking!? Seriously, its like a fish net wrapped around cotton on the pads. AND they're stiff to boot! Not soft at all!
- The microphone cord for the controller/communicator is flimsy and causes problems. The X4's had a "puck" device that held it place on the controller and worked beautifully. This one however flops around too much and too easily and causes the connector to wiggle around causing REALLY BAD crackle and pop over the communicator. And good luck if you have an OLD Xbox controller or well-used one, because most likely the hole the plug goes into is probably worn and makes the problems WORSE!
- No HDMI. Why is this a negative? Well if you have an XBOX running an HDMI ONLY, you'll be in for a surprise; the X41 (and X4) uses Optical ONLY, meaning yes you have to buy (if you don't have one) the "High-Def" Xbox cable to exclusively run the optical out of that specific port. It's only a pain for those who just have been using a dedicated HDMI cable ONLY and probably, like me, donated or sold the "outdated high-def" cable that I formally used. Right now I'm running BOTH; HDMI for my high-def TV, and optical for the wireless headphones. Clutter galore...
- And now the caveat emptor (buyer beware) of this headphone -> SNAP...CRACKLE...POP! And this is when the communicator IS NOT plugged in. If you've read this far, you've probably a smart shopper that reads MULTIPLE reviews, and you've seen that this issue is inconsistent, some have it, some don't. MY experience is also inconsistent, some days I play I'm pop-free. Other days it's non-stop or just wants to pop at random moments. But when it DOES happen, it will be utterly ear-popping, teeth crunching, anger inducing, annoying!!
Right now I'm testing X41 headphone #5! That's right, FIVE. Good thing return policies are nice here. Maybe it's my home, maybe I'm a static magnet, maybe a ghost wants to mess with me, maybe not, but I've done EVERYTHING to try and solve the issue when it happens: Changed to fresh batteries, re-syncing, moving the base, moving my router, moving my sitting position (!?), etc... and it still CONTINUES. Then...it just stops...out of the blue...it just stops...and then it'll start up again....
CONCLUSION: I've said everything I'd like to say about this thing. I WANT to love it, I truly do! It is sheer brilliance when it works, but when I'm knee deep desperately trying to win a closely scored clan-match, I can't have it POP and CRACKLE in my ear when I'm knee deep in machine gun fire, or when my teammates are calling out vital orders. If you're a hardcore multiplayer/online gamer, you might want to consider something more consistent, or at least consider a extended warranty. If you're a casual gamer/person looking for an awesome wireless surround sound solution to enhance your gaming experience, not wake up the sleeping baby, etc... this one you should SERIOUSLY consider. The $199 retail value at most places is a HUGE investment considering. But all other folks who are interested, make sure you buy it from a store with a good return policy...just in case.
